A DAILY DOSE     TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2014

If my life is surrendered to God, all is well. Let me not grab it back, as though it were in peril in His hand but would be safer in mine!

Elisabeth Elliot

2 Corinthians 4:17-18

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

A DAILY DOSE     MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2014

Someone has said that the greatest sin is to make God unattractive.  Unfortunately, we can do this not only by the words we preach but more so by our very demeanor. Today we ask ourselves, 'How approachable and kind am I to the people I live with, work with, serve or meet on the street? Do I reflect the amiable God I believe in?'"

Sr. Melannie Svoboda, S.N.D

1 Samuel 12:24

Only fear the Lord, and serve him faithfully with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.

A DAILY DOSE     SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2014

Be loyal to the Lord, accept His will.

St. Peter Ou

Luke 22:41-42

Then he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and prayed, ‘Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me; yet, not my will but yours be done.’

A DAILY DOSE     SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2014

The simple act of stopping and looking at the beauty around us can be prayer.

Patricia Barrett

Ecclesiastes 3:11

God has made everything appropriate to its time, but has put the timeless into their hearts so they cannot find out, from beginning to end, the work which God has done.

A DAILY DOSE     FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2014

I really only love God as much as I love the person I love the least.

Dorothy Day

Hebrews 13:2

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.

A DAILY DOSE     THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2014

God who saved me will be with me again in this journey, and if I do not abandon Him, He will be with me always. And while He is with me everything that can happen to me will always be a grace, a blessing for which I should thank Him.

Blessed Giovanni Battista Mazzucconi

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— not the result of works, so that no one may boast.

A DAILY DOSE     WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2014

The world has grown old; the human race is adrift. Well, yes, if we abandon humanity to its natural course, to its fatal direction. No, if the power from on high that is preserved in the religion of Jesus and in His Church is poured out anew on all ranks of the human race and restores them to life.

Blessed Anton Martin Slomsek

Matthew 28:28b

And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.

A DAILY DOSE     TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2014

Pray, hope, don’t worry.

St.Padre Pio

Luke 12:22-25

He said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life and what you will eat, or about your body and what you will wear. For life is more than food and the body more than clothing. Notice the ravens: they do not sow or reap; they have neither storehouse nor barn, yet God feeds them. How much more important are you than birds! Can any of you by worrying add a moment to your lifespan?"

A DAILY DOSE     MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2014

Because that's what kindness is. It's not doing something for someone else because they can't, but because you can.

Andrew Iskander

Proverbs 3:27-28

Refuse no one the good on which he has a claim when it is in your power to do it for him. Say not to your neighbor, “Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give,” when you can give at once.

A DAILY DOSE     SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2014

Only by being a man—or woman—for others does one become fully human.

Fr. Pedro Arrupe

Romans 12:2

Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.

A DAILY DOSE     SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2014

All of us can attain to Christian virtue and holiness, no matter in what condition of life we live and no matter what our life work may be.

St. Francis de Sales

Psalm 85:8

I will listen for what God, the LORD, has to say; surely he will speak of peace to his people and to his faithful. May they not turn to foolishness!

A DAILY DOSE     FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2014

God does no harm to anybody.

St. Alonso de Orozco Mena

Psalm 50:14-15

Offer praise as your sacrifice to God; fulfill your vows to the Most High. Then call on me on the day of distress; I will rescue you, and you shall honor me.

A DAILY DOSE     THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2014

Our happiness is so dependent on our happenings; our joy depends on us that we find in Christ Jesus.

1 John 1:6-7

If we say, “We have fellowship with him,” while we continue to walk in darkness, we lie and do not act in truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from all sin.

A DAILY DOSE     WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2014

Be wise, my soul, and trust in God alone, cling to Him alone, and cast all your cares on Him alone.

St. Robert Bellarmine

Psalm 118:15-17

The joyful shout of deliverance is heard in the tents of the righteous: “The LORD’s right hand works valiantly; the LORD’s right hand is raised; the LORD’s right hand works valiantly. ”I shall not die but live and declare the deeds of the LORD.

A DAILY DOSE     TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2014

Walking in faith means putting one foot in front of the other with both eyes on God.

1 Peter 1:21

He was known before the foundation of the world but revealed in the final time for you, who through him believe in God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

A DAILY DOSE     MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2014

We may sometimes feel disappointed when others don't see the world as we do. Jesus did not surrender his vision to the 'logical' promptings of the disciples; he simply turned and went on his way.

Regarding Luke 9:51-56 from Sacred Space

Luke 9:51-56

When the days for his being taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem, and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?” Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village.

A DAILY DOSE     SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2014

The Cross is planted in the earth and would seem to extend its roots in human malice, but it reaches up, pointing as it were to the heavens, pointing to the goodness of God. By means of the Cross of Christ, the Evil One has been defeated, death is overcome, life is given to us, hope is restored, and light is imparted.

Pope Saint John Paul II

Philippians 2:6-11

Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

A DAILY DOSE     SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2014

As water extinguishes fire, so prayer extinguishes the heat of the passions.

St. John Chrysostom

Hebrews 12:28-29

Therefore, we who are receiving the unshakable kingdom should have gratitude, with which we should offer worship pleasing to God in reverence and awe.For our God is a consuming fire.

A DAILY DOSE     FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2014

Life is so much easier when we learn to forgive without an apology.

Luke 6:41

Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?

A DAILY DOSE     THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2014

O God of love, compassion, and healing. We ask you in your goodness to give eternal light and peace to all who died here the heroic first-responders: our fire fighters, police officers, emergency service workers, and Port Authority personnel, along with all the innocent men and women who were victims of this tragedy simply because their work or service brought them here on September 11, 2001.

Pope Benedict XVI

Psalm 119:114

You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.

A DAILY DOSE     WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2014

When prayer seems lacking in fruitfulness:  Jesus says that whoever loses his life for my sake, will find it. Similarly, it can be said of prayer that whoever loses her time for Jesus' sake will discover that it becomes the most precious time. Waste your time for Jesus' sake. You will not be disappointed.

Peter G. Van Bremen

Isaiah 55:3

Come to me heedfully, listen, that you may have life.

A DAILY DOSE      TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2014

Faith has to do with things that are not seen, and hope with things that are not in hand.

St. Thomas Aquinas

Psalm 138:7-8

Though I walk in the midst of dangers, you guard my life when my enemies rage. You stretch out your hand; your right hand saves me.

The LORD is with me to the end. LORD, your mercy endures forever.Never forsake the work of your hands!

A DAILY DOSE      MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2014

About Jesus Christ and the Church, I simply know they're just one thing, and we shouldn't complicate the matter.

St. Joan of Arc

Ephesians 4:15-16

Rather, living the truth in love, we should grow in every way into him who is the head,Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, with the proper functioning of each part, brings about the body’s growth and builds itself up in love.

A DAILY DOSE      SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2014

If laypeople don’t love their Catholic faith enough to struggle for it in the public square, nothing the bishops do will finally matter.

Bishop Charles J. Chaput

Matthew 5:14-15

You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.  Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.

A DAILY DOSE      SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2014

It is well with my soul.

Horatio Spatford

Genesis 28:15

I am with you and will protect you wherever you go, and bring you back to this land. I will never leave you until I have done what I promised you

A DAILY DOSE      FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2014

Jesus in my heart, I believe in your faithful love for me. I offer you my love. Amen.

Blessed Mother Teresa

John 19:28

After this, aware that everything was now finished, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I thirst.”

A DAILY DOSE      THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2014

The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook.

William James

2 Peter 1:2

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

A DAILY DOSE      WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2014

A man does not climb a mountain in great bounds, but by taking slow, steady steps.

Pope St. Gregory the Great

Psalm 143:8

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.

A DAILY DOSE      TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2014

After you receive communion be still and quiet. Close your eyes. This is an intimate encounter with God. Feel him within you, reaching out to every corner of your being. Thank him. This is a time not to seek, ask, or knock, as much as it is a time to simply be grateful for all the blessings in your life.

Matthew Kelly

Luke 9:16-17

Then taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing over them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.

They all ate and were satisfied.

A DAILY DOSE      MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2014

All of us can attain to Christian virtue and holiness, no matter in what condition of life we live and no matter what our life work may be.

St. Francis de Sales

Acts 9:11-19

The Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the street called Straight and ask at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is there praying, and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him, that he may regain his sight.”

But Ananias replied, “Lord, I have heard from many sources about this man, what evil things he has done to your holy ones in Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to imprison all who call upon your name.”But the Lord said to him, “Go, for this man is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before Gentiles, kings, and Israelites, and I will show him what he will have to suffer for my name.”

So Ananias went and entered the house; laying his hands on him, he said, “Saul, my brother, the Lord has sent me, Jesus who appeared to you on the way by which you came, that you may regain your sight and be filled with the holy Spirit.”

Immediately things like scales fell from his eyes and he regained his sight. He got up and was baptized, and when he had eaten, he recovered his strength.
