For clarity and comfort as I move forward, I pray

Never let someone else determine God’s will for your life. No one else can understand God’s unique call on your life as clearly as you can. Ray Pritchard

The Immediate Gift of Wisdom

James 1: 2-5

Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. And let perseverance be perfect, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it.

The Holy Spirit guides us in fulfilling God's plans.

The good thoughts which God gives you in prayer are relics. Gather them carefully together in order to translate them into acts, and you will gladden the heart of God. Saint Vincent de Paul

Acts 28:20, 30-31

[Paul said:] "I have requested to see you and to speak with you, for it is on account of the hope of Israel that I wear these chains."

He remained for two full years in his lodgings. He received all who came to him, and with complete assurance and without hindrance he proclaimed the Kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.

Giving is important. Sacrifice is significant. But loving God and others needs to be the focus of our lives. And when we truly grasp this concept - everything else falls into place.

1 Corinthians 13:3

If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing

1 John 5:14-15, 20-21

And we have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours.

We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us discernment to know the one who is true. And we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Children, be on your guard against idols.

Live in this Moment

I AM

I was regretting the past and fearing the future.

Suddenly my Lord was speaking.

"My name is I am"

He paused. I waited. He continued,

"When you live in the past with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard. I am not there.

My name is not I WAS.

When you live in the future, with its problems and fears, it is hard. I am not there.

My name is not I WILL BE .

When you live in this moment it is not hard. I am here,

My name is I AM ."

Helen Mallicoat

Matthew 6: 25-34

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat (or drink), or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say, 'What are we to eat?' or 'What are we to drink?' or 'What are we to wear?' All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom (of God) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides. Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil.

The action was so unusual that the headwaiter felt compelled to mention it. Most likely the bridegroom thought he had served the good wine first. What must have gone through his mind when the head waiter spoke these words to him? But the bridegroom and the headwaiter were astounded.

One thing we learn from Jesus in the Gospels is that abundance is a sign of God’s Kingdom. Scarcity does not exist in God’s vocabulary. God is so much bigger than anything we can imagine. Jesus demonstrated that fact over and over again throughout his public ministry. The closer we draw to Jesus, the more we will notice that the Christian life is not business as usual. Finding God/Loyola Press.com

John 2:9-11

And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom

and said to him, "Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now."

Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.

The Needs of the Age and the Holy Spirit

Men endowed with these gifts are men for whom, if it but knew it, the age calls. Men whose minds are enlightened and whose wills are strengthened by an increased action of the Holy Spirit. Men whose souls are actuated by the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Men whose countenances are lit up with a heavenly joy, who breathe an air of inward peace, and act with a holy liberty and a restless energy. One such soul does more to advance the kingdom of God than tens of thousands without those gifts. These are the men and this is the way, if the age could only be made to see and believe it, to universal restoration, universal reconciliation, and universal progress, as far as such boons are attainable. Father Isaac Hecker

"I see," said the blind man.

In the contemporary world thoroughly given to the awe of science and technology, we are challenged to identify Jesus. We may claim him as our “Lord and God,” but what do these terms mean if we spend our lives in pursuit of fortune or adventure? Mark’s gospel calls us to unrelenting recognition of Jesus as the source, end, and sustaining force of our lives.

Fr. Carmen Mele

Mark 8:22-26

Two Ears and One Mouth

Paul urges Christians to speak only words that edify those around us. Our words are to be a gift to those listening.

Unwholesome talk is not just profanity or inappropriate stories. Our speech is bigger than jokes and vacant conversations. The conversations we have at work, with our spouses, our children, and our friends are all for a greater purpose; to listen and lift up those we speak to; becoming more like our Savior. The Daily Bible Verse

Ephesians 4:29

No foul language should come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for needed edification, that it may impart grace to those who hear.
