| A Daily Dose Wednesday, March 31, 2010 On the day you cease to change, you cease to live. Anthony de Mello SJ Romans 5:1-6 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us. For Christ, while we were still helpless, yet died at the appointed time for the ungodly. | A Daily Dose Tuesday, March 30, 2010 On the occasion of Passover, may we be grateful for the depth of our own particular faith traditions. "If you cannot be grateful for what you have received, then be thankful for what you have been spared." Yiddish Proverb Matthew 26:39 He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet, not as I will, but as you will." |
A Daily Dose Monday, March 29, 2010 Many thoughts come to these souls which stretch far beyond the limits of man's reason; noble hopes and aspirations, heroic deeds of sacrifice, and bright dreams of a holy life, awake them from their midnight slumbers, indicating a life beyond mere human strength. Such are the hidden ways of God's providence in preparing that class of souls which He has chosen to do a great work, to live above the race and the common life of men, and to act upon society with a divine energy. Isaac Hecker James 5:7-8 Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You too must be patient. Make your hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand. | A Daily Dose Sunday, March 28, 2010
Pilate and the Jews put Jesus, the Son of God on trial for blasphemy and condemned Him to death. Pride and greed for power and prestige can cause a blindness that condemns God who offers us eternal life. Is there is a greater ingratitude in the history of humankind? Luke 23:24-26 The verdict of Pilate was that their demand should be granted. So he released the man who had been imprisoned for rebellion and murder, for whom they asked, and he handed Jesus over to them to deal with as they wished. |

As Jesus could not sit on the ass before she was loosened (Matthew 21:3), so He cannot dwell in a soul bound by her own iniquities. Saint Alphonsus Liguori Psalm 32:5 Then I declared my sin to you; my guilt I did not hide. I said, "I confess my faults to the LORD," and you took away the guilt of my sin. Most Gracious God, Saint Ludger poured all his energy into his priestly ministry and delighted in teaching about You. O Lord, take away my laziness and lack of enthusiasm. Teach me so much about Your love that I bubble over with fervor. Take away any fears that hold me back from shining forth with Your Light. Give me words that teach Who You are, with an intensity that spreads my delight in knowing You. Saint Ludger, pray for me. Amen.Terry Modica John 10:37-38 “If I do not perform my Father's works, do not believe me; but if I perform them, even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may realize (and understand) that the Father is in me and I am in the Father." |
A Daily Dose Thursday, March 25, 2010 The most striking element of the parable The Prodigal Son is the father's festive and loving welcome of the returning son: it is a sign of the mercy of God who is always willing to forgive. Let us say at once: reconciliation is principally a gift of the heavenly Father. Venerable Pope John Paul I Luke 23:34 Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do." They divided his garments by casting lots. |
