When you look at the Crucifix, you understand how much Jesus loved you then. When you look at the Sacred Host you understand how much Jesus loves you now.
Bl. Mother Theresa of Calcutta

John 17:23-24

I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me. Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world.

As we take up our daily cross, it might be that we may have to ‘switch shoulders’ occasionally to carry on.

Luke 9:23-24

Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.

Colossians 3:17

Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have I loved You!

St. Augustine

1 John 4:7-10, 16

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him.In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins

We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us. God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him.

To pray is to listen, to move through my own chattering to God, to that place where I can be silent and listen to what God may have to say.

Madeleine L'Engle

Romans 12:12

Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.

We need no wings to go in search of Him, but have only to look upon Him present within us. St. Teresa of Avila

Colossians 1:26-28

But now it has been manifested to his holy ones, to whom God chose to make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; it is Christ in you, the hope for glory. It is he whom we proclaim, admonishing everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.

The work of the soul’s purification neither may nor can end save with life itself;—do not then let us be disheartened by our imperfections,—our very perfection lies in diligently contending against them, and it is impossible so to contend without seeing them, or to overcome without meeting them face to face. Our victory does not consist in being insensible to them, but in not consenting to them.

David continually asks the Lord to strengthen his heart against cowardice and discouragement; and it is our privilege in this war that we are certain to vanquish so long as we are willing to fight. St. Francis de Sales

Proverbs 6:20, 22

My son, keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's teachings. When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you.

Before Communion the sacred bread does not look as if Christ is present in it. After Communion we do not always look as if Christ is present in us.
Frank Sheed (adapted)

John 6:53

Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.

You can always tell when a man is not living in the purpose for which God created him. You sense his unrest. You get a feeling something is not quite right, even if you can't put your finger on what it is. When you are around a man who is fulfilling his calling and doing what he was created to do, you're aware of his inner direction, confidence and deep security.

Stormie Omartian

Psalm 1:3

Nothing can be invented that is a greater absurdity than a morose, hard, close, high spirited, spiteful true Christian.

Luke 18:13-14

But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, ‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’ I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Think of someone who generates negative emotions in you. In your mind, invite this person into your presence, feel the emotions and see how you are revealed to yourself and how human nature works in the circumstance. Anthony De Mello in his amazing work, The Way to Love, indicates that such meditation will produce revelations that will “widen your heart till there is room in it for every living creature.” He goes on to state the following three revelations:

1) Ask yourself, am I in charge of the situation or is the situation in charge of me.

2) Certain others in the same circumstance would not be negatively affected by this

person. Hence, the negative feeling come not by this person but by your programming.

3) See what happens when you really understand this.

Listen to the revelations of human nature and how previously these persons had the power to create negative emotions within you. The negative emotions will turn into gentleness and compassion.

Adapted from the The Way to Love by Anthony De Mello

Romans 12:6-8

Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us exercise them: if prophecy, in proportion to the faith;if ministry, in ministering; if one is a teacher, in teaching; if one exhorts, in exhortation; if one contributes, in generosity; if one is over others, with diligence; if one does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
