It’s all providential.

Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

Prayer gives strength to the weak, faith to the fainthearted, and courage to the fearful. E.C. McKenzie

Matthew 17:20-21

He said to them, "Because of your little faith. Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

May our actions resemble those of the Almighty this weekend.

Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you.

St. Thomas Aquinas

Hebrews 4:4
"And God rested on the seventh day from all his works."

Isn’t great knowing that whatever it is today that is hassling you, you can let it go and give it over to God? He knows what lies ahead way more than we do. Considering the option, trust Him that He wants good things to come out His plan for us, not those things you are complaining about.

Psalm 118:23-24

By the LORD has this been done; it is wonderful in our eyes.

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad.

“Do whatever he tells you.”

Really, it’s very simple. Do you want to be holy? Then “Do whatever he tells you.” But simple does not mean easy. Is it easy to “Do whatever he tells you”? If it was, we’d all be saints. The world would be much different. Why are these simple last words so difficult for us? Why can’t we just “Do whatever he tells you.”?

Sr. Cecilia Marie, IHM

John 2:1-5

“On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’

And Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.’

His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’

Faith: The knowing within

Consider the knowing within faith of a bird
“Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark.” Rabindranath Tagore

Proverbs 4:20-23

My child, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.
Do not let them escape from your sight; keep them within your heart.
For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

Psalm 25 1-10, 20-21

Prayer for Guidance and for Deliverance

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. O my God, in you I trust; do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies exult over me.

Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame; let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.

Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.

Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for your goodness’ sake, O Lord! Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.

All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.

O guard my life, and deliver me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you.

Sanctification means to love God above all things and everything else for His sake. It means to love our friends in Him, and our enemies for Him. St. Anthony Mary Zaccaria

Luke 6:27-33

"But to you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic.

Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back.

Do to others as you would have them do to you. For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.

And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.

Galatians 3:26-29

For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

In all your actions, in all your words, whether you walk or eat, whether you speak or keep silent, whether alone or in company, lift your eyes to Him as your model. By this you will inflame your love; you will increase your confidence in Him, you will enter into a holy familiarity of Him, and you will become perfect in every kind of virtue. St. Bonaventure

Galatians 6:9-10

Availability is better than ability for God.

Mark 2:16-17

Some scribes who were Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors and said to his disciples, "Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?"

Jesus heard this and said to them (that), "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."

1 Peter 4:12-13

Beloved, do not be surprised that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as if something strange were happening to you. But rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly.

Let us work for the happiness of others. Saint Francisca Salesia

Luke 15:4-7

What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it? And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them, 'Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.'

I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.

1 John 5:10-1

And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life.

I write these things to you so that you may know that you have eternal life, you who believe in the name of the Son of God.

A Daily Dose Saturday, January 9, 2010

A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is.... A man who gives in to temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later. That is why bad people, in one sense, know very little about badness. They have lived a sheltered life by always giving in.

C.S. Lewis

1 Corinthians 10:11-13

These things happened to them as an example, and they have been written down as a warning to us, upon whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore, whoever thinks he is standing secure should take care not to fall. No trial has come to you but what is human. God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it.

A Daily Dose Friday, January 8, 2010

When something turns out not very well or even badly, do not be disturbed nor think it a real evil; but be humble before God and be confident that from it He will draw some good. St Anthony Mary Gianelli

Romans 8:26-28

In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God's will.

We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.

A Daily Dose Thursday, January 7, 2010

Take pains to refrain from sharp words. Pardon one another so that later on you will not remember the injury. The recollection of an injury is itself wrong. It adds to our anger, nurtures our sins and hates what is good. It is a rusty arrow and poison for the soul. Saint Francis of Paola

1 John 4:19-21

We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, "I love God," but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.

This is the commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.

Lord, increase my faith.

Faith is easy when we meet with no difficulty and walk in a way of light and consolation. But when we are struggling with temptation, with suffering and trial, when we are in a dryness of heart and spiritual darkness, then it needs a strong faith to abandon ourselves to God and remain entirely united to his holy will.

Blessed Columba Marmion, Redemptorist Abbot

Isaiah 50:10

Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the voice of his servant, who walks in darkness
and has no light, yet trusts in the name of the Lord and relies upon his God?

A Daily Dose Sunday, January 3, 2010

Piety is the bond which ties us close to God and, for his sake, to others too since we see Christ in them. Without it, disunity comes inevitably, and with disunity the loss of all Christian spirit. St. Josemaria Escriva

Matthew 10:39-40

Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.

Intimacy with the Lord is not a matter of physical kinship; rather, it is achieved by cheerful readiness to do the will of God. St. Basil

Colossians 3:14-17

And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection. And let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace into which you were also called in one body. And be thankful.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

A Daily Dose Friday, January 1, 2010

The voice of God only makes itself heard in the repose and silence of the soul. It is true that the voice of God, having once fully penetrated the heart, becomes strong as the tempest and loud as the thunder, but before reaching the heart it is weak as a light breath which scarcely agitated the air. It shrinks from noise and is silent amid agitation.

Saint Ignatius of Loyola

John 8:12

"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
