It’s a chilly Winter evening and in our parish community the Church is comfortably filled with sinners who open their minds and hearts to the guiding Holy Spirit, seeking to see themselves in the light of God’s love and to experience the wonder of forgiveness, in God’s compassion. Looming over the congregation is a mural of the Crucifixion.

Jesus, my brother, my Lord, the Son of God, imaged for me and for all who are present, in the stark cruelty resulting from human sinfulness. As all form long lines to enter into the sacramental moment when they experience the cleansing power of God’s loving embrace, all begin anew. May this be truly a new beginning for all. Rebirth in the order of grace.

R. Benoit

2 Corinthians 5:20

So we are ambassadors for Christ, as if God were appealing through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless prayer.

Frances Havergal

A Daily Dose  Friday, February 21, 2014

I will often consider myself as an instrument which is of no use except in the hands of the Workman. Hence I must await the orders of Providence before acting and be careful to accomplish them when unknown.

St. John Baptist de La Salle

James 4:10

Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.

I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.

C. S. Lewis

Good and honest behavior does not come merely from “juridical norms” but rather requires profound motivation, expressions of a hidden wisdom, the Wisdom of God, which can be received by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Pope Francis

Now, therefore, Israel, what does the LORD, your God, ask of you but to fear the LORD, your God, to follow in all his ways, to love and serve the LORD, your God, with your whole heart and with your whole being

In temptations and trials the progress of a man is measured; in them opportunity for merit and virtue is made more manifest. When a man is not troubled it is not hard for him to be fervent and devout, but if he bears up patiently in time of adversity, there is hope for great progress.

St. Francis de Sales

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and has made the Lord his hope and confidence.

A Daily Dose   Saturday, February 15, 2014

In our ignorance of what the future holds, how can we be so bold as to question what comes about by God's permission? Surely it is reasonable to think that our complaints are groundless and that instead of complaining we ought to be thanking Providence.

St. Claude de la Colombiere

Job 37:14-16

Listen to this, Job! Stand and consider the marvels of God! Do you know how God lays his command upon them, and makes the light shine forth from his clouds? Do you know how the clouds are banked, the marvels of him who is perfect in knowledge?

Clothed in His grace we can do all things, whether to give a talk, go to Africa, battle an illness, kick a habit, lay hands on the sick, or love somebody that drives us crazy. We just believe and get our carcasses to the starting gate.
