Oh, God, for this day, just one day, let me live generously, kindly, in a state of grace and goodness that denies my many imperfections and makes me more like you.

"We can't be judgmental of someone at work and leave it behind just by leaving work. We can't stay angry at our spouse. If we look fearfully at one thing, a tinge of anxiety settles over all things. Judgment, anger, and fear are all mindsets."
Hugh Prather

Matthew 12:35-37

“A good person brings forth good out of a store of goodness, but an evil person brings forth evil out of a store of evil. I tell you, on the Day of Judgment people will render an account for every careless word they speak. By your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."

Clothed with Christ

The value of life does not depend upon the place we occupy, but upon the way we occupy that place. Saint Theresa of Lisieux

Galatians 3:25-27

But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a disciplinarian. For through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Do Not Worry!

May the management of our time begin with a commitment to contemplative prayer.

Norman V. Peale & Ken Blanchard

Luke 12:22-25

"He said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life and what you will eat, or about your body and what you will wear. For life is more than food and the body more than clothing. Notice the ravens: they do not sow or reap; they have neither storehouse nor barn, yet God feeds them. How much more important are you than birds! Can any of you by worrying add a moment to your lifespan?"

Daily Living

How much of our faith in God’s gift of eternal life through His resurrection, is evident in the quality of our daily living? Do we live spiritually and serve selflessly in Christ-like ways daily? Fr Philip Heng,S.J.

John 3:11-12

Amen, amen, I say to you, we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen, but you people do not accept our testimony.

If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?

Humble yourself to the guidance of God

Humbly and freely I confess with a deep sense of humility that all my labor is useless and my ability to benefit or accomplish anything in the view of the world, Christian or worldly, is daily becoming to me fainter and fainter. The Spirit which guides and controls me I have no disposition to rebel against but would meekly submit to its supreme and perfect guidance. Father Isaac Hecker

Philippians 2:9-11

Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

With God

The Apostle John reminds his readers of two truths: Jesus Christ has a unique relationship with God and Jesus Christ is eternal.

John places these two truths side -by-side in saying that before anything was made, Jesus was with God. Being divine Himself (see Colossians 1:19; 2:9) and being involved in creation Himself (see Colossians 1:16-17), Jesus existed alongside God the Father. Jeremy Cagle

John 1:1-2

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He was in the beginning with God.

Pray much for love.

God is Love . . . no judging.
God is Love . . . no resentment.
God is Love . . . all patience.
God is Love . . . all power.
God is Love . . . all supply.
(God Calling)

1 John 4:15-19

Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God.

We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us. God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him. In this is love brought to perfection among us, that we have confidence on the day of judgment because as he is, so are we in this world.

There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love.

We love because he first loved us.

A Daily Dose Wednesday, April 15, 2009

Let us give thanks for our spouses and family members who rally around us 24/7, especially with added stress in our households.

"Many of us take the people closest to us for granted, and show far greater appreciation to strangers who have done us a favor than to those who have undoubtedly done us hundreds. "

Rabbi Joseph Telushkin

1 Corinthians
Chapter 13

If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.

If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated,

It is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.

It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.

For we know partially and we prophesy partially, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.

When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things.

At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known.

So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Negative Programming In Our Mind

Think of someone who generates negative emotions in you. In your mind, invite this person into your presence, feel the emotions and see how you are revealed to yourself and how human nature works in the circumstance. Anthony De Mello in his amazing work, The Way To Love, indicates that such meditation will produce revelations that will “widen your heart till there is room in it for every living creature.” He goes on to state the following three revelations:

1) Ask yourself, am I in charge of the situation or is the situation in charge of me.

2) Certain others in the same circumstance would not be negatively affected by this person. Hence, the negative feeling come not by this person but by your programming.

3) See what happens when you really understand this.

Listen to the revelations of human nature and how previously these persons had the power to create negative emotions within you. The negative emotions will turn into gentleness and compassion.

Adapted from the The Way to Love by Anthony De Mello (Author)

Romans 8:31-35

What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

He who did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along with him?

Who will bring a charge against God's chosen ones? It is God who acquits us.

Who will condemn? It is Christ (Jesus) who died, rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.

What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword?

Serve more than others think practical.
Expect more than others think possible."

Romans 12:14-18

Bless those who persecute (you), bless and do not curse them.

Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

Have the same regard for one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly; do not be wise in your own estimation.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil; be concerned for what is noble in the sight of all.

If possible, on your part, live at peace with all.

And He departed from our sight that we might return to our heart, and there find Him. For He departed, and behold, He is here.

St. Augustine, Confessions

Matthew 28: 5-10

Then the angel said to the women in reply, "Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him.' Behold, I have told you." Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce 5 this to his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me."

The Easter Message means that God can turn prostitutes like Magdalene into disciples and broken reeds like Simon Peter into rocks. Fulton Sheen

Luke 24:10-16

The women were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; the others who accompanied them also told this to the apostles, but their story seemed like nonsense and they did not believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb, bent down, and saw the burial cloths alone; then he went home amazed at what had happened.

Now that very day two of them were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus, and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred. And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him.

Can you see Him?

How could an act of weakness, such as a man dying on a cross, cause this kind of response in an elite Roman soldier?

In the Jewish temple there was a place called the Holy of holies. A heavy curtain covered the entrance; separated unholy man from a holy God. When that curtain was ripped in two the separation between God and man was gone. Suddenly the centurion saw what he couldn't see before: Jesus was not an ordinary man, but God's very act of reconciliation. Can you see that?

Or do you still see just a man on a cross? Dave Whitehead

Mark 15:37-39

With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, heard his cry and saw how he died, he said, "Surely this man was the Son of God!"
